My painting Coda: Self-Portrait in the Studio, which is currently on tour as part of the Kingston Prize, has been featured in the Feb/May 2012 issue of PORTRAIT: Magazine of Australian & International Portraiture, a quarterly journal published by the National Portrait Gallery of Australia. My painting was selected by the magazine for the Kingston Prize listing in their International shows to see section. I will be taking part in the Samband íslenskra myndlistarmanna artist residency, in Reykjavik, Iceland this fall. Run by SÍM, The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists, the residency welcomes around 12 artists every month to their studios in the city centre, bringing Icelandic and international artists together to work in close company.

In Blue

In September and October of 2011, I took part in an artist residency at the Ox-Bow School of Arts, in Saugatuck, Michigan. These photos were taken in the Old Inn on the school grounds, where students would stay during the summer months. I was instantly attracted to the blue colours in the rooms, from the painted furniture to the uncovered mattresses down to the walls, and I decided to create a series of photographs playing with the ideas of nostalgia and memories in relation to the colour blue.

Exhibition: The Kingston Prize 2011

The Kingston Prize is a biennial national competition for portrait painting by Canadian artists. 30 finalists were chosen from 451 entries by a distinguished jury. The prize will be awarded on November 10 at the Gala Preview at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. My self-portrait “Coda: Self-portrait in the studio” will first be exhibited in Gananoque, Ontario, before traveling through Ontario and Quebec.

2011 Kingston Prize Shortlist

I’m very happy to announce that I have been selected as one of thirty finalists for the Kingston Art Prize, Canada’s National Portraiture award. I was lucky enough to be selected two years ago, and my painting traveled across Canada with the prize’s touring exhibition.

My painting, Coda: Self-portrait in the studio, will be traveling with the exhibition later this year and into 2012 at the Firehall Theatre (Gananoque, Ontario), Institute for Contemporary Culture, Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto, Ontario), and Galerie d’art Desjardins (Drummondville, Quebec). Exhibition: Chain Letter

I will be exhibiting a piece in Chain Letter, a global group show, curated by Christian Cummings and Doug Harvey, based on admiration. It is being held in 11 cities around the world, and her work will be shown at the main location in Los Angeles. Inclusion in the exhibition is based on invitation by someone who admires your work. Each artist invited then invites ten other artists whom they admire, and so on, circulating for thirty days, until the exhibition opens on the July 23, 2011.

Residency: Ox-Bow

I will be taking part in an artist residency program at Ox-Bow, in Saugatuck, Michigan in the fall of 2011. Ox-Bow has been in operation for over 100 years, in close partnership with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and is situated in the midst of 115-acres of natural forests, dunes, and a lagoon just off of Lake Michigan.
