Earlier this spring, I started a new painting with dark looming green storm clouds. At the end of May, I posted an early sneak peek on my blog, which you can find here. The painting took a bit of a back seat over the summer and then I went away on my Ox-Bow residency. I don’t like leaving paintings unfinished, at least ones that I think are worth finishing, and this is probably the longest that I’ve left a painting before returning to it. I’m happy to say it is finally done! At 24″ x 36″ in size, this is the largest and most ambitious of the Of Myth and Men series. I’m still thinking of a suitable title, but in the meantime, here are some teasers – details without revealing the whole painting just yet.

And one more hint, the painting is based on Jean-Honoré Fragonard’s famous Rococo painting Les Hasards Heureux de l’Escarpolette, which translates to The Happy Accidents of the Swing. The painting is more commonly referred to simply as The Swing.
