A New Year in the Studio

Busy, busy.

It’s a new year, which means lots of new things coming up, including new work! I’m busy in the studio these days preparing for several projects that will be taking place this year. I’ve also been sorting things out in my studio. Between experimenting with some new ideas and techniques and creating more work for upcoming exhibitions, I’ve also been trying to keep my studio fairly orderly. I’ve managed to do okay, for the most part, save for an accident with a fresh pot of dark pink ink which has now stained my work horse desk and part of the floor of my studio. I think it gives my studio a bit of flair. A good way to start the new year!

I’ll be doing a studio visit event with the Contemporary Art Society of Vancouver on February 2nd, giving an artist’s talk in my studio to members of CASV. This will only be open to CASV members only, and as I have a somewhat small studio space, there will be a limited number of people allowed, to keep it cozy without being uncomfortable. I’m looking forward to this as it will the first open studio to a group of people at my current studio. Previously, I had opened my studio during the Eastside Culture Crawl, when I used to be located in East Vancouver, and those were always fun events. This will be a little bit more formal than that but still fun, hopefully!

Here’s a little peak at my studio from December, when I had some work displayed for a private studio visit. A panorama photo taken in my studio to try to capture all the little nooks and crannies, filled with art and materials. With less wall space to work with than in previous years, it will be tricky deciding what to hang and how, but a good challenge. A little bit of self-curating!
