Room with a view

Banff
The view to the right of my bedroom window

Hello from Banff!

I arrived here earlier this week, and the program I am in began on Wednesday.  I’m part of a thematic residency, called “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” with 9 other artists from around the world who all work with themes of love in their artwork.  We’ve just started getting settled into our studios and getting to know the campus.  I’ve been through Banff before while driving to Calgary from Vancouver, but never actually been in Banff long enough to appreciate the landscape.  And what a landscape it is!

The view of the mountains to the left…

It is very awe inspiring, and I feel so grateful to be a part of this residency.  I feel like it’s going to be a wonderful experience and everyone here is so supportive of creativity and art, it’s not like anything I’ve seen before from other art “institutions”.  The facilities are amazing too, and I can’t wait to show you all the work that I’m doing here.  There will still be paintings, but I’m also going to be experimenting with screen printing and painting on wood shapes…intrigued yet?

Surrounded by mountains & snow

In the meantime, here’s the view that I wake up to every morning from my room on the 6th floor of the residence hall.  It’s more like a hotel room than a residence hall.  Pretty spectacular!

I’ll post some photos of my studio space soon.  I’m off to do a presentation on my work now, and I’m excited to see what all my fellow residency artists are working on.
