Today was my first day at Ox-Bow as part of a five week artist residency. I’m here in Saugatuck, Michigan and settling into my new surroundings after a two-day journey via Chicago.
After unpacking all my stuff, I started to work a bit in my new studio space and acquaint myself with my current environment.
It’s different than anything I’ve experienced before, in terms of the surroundings. We are in the middle of the woods, overlooking a lagoon that leads to Lake Michigan.
Because it is the fall term, there are not many people here other than my fellow resident artists and staff, as usually classes are held here. I think it is busier during the summer months. The quiet is nice though, and I hope to get a lot of work done here in these five weeks.
I share a space with other artists in the Haas Painting Studio, with my own little partition. I started putting some stuff up on the walls today, as I’m still waiting for some supplies to arrive before I can jump into painting.
As I’m still waiting for supplies like my palette, mediums, and solvents, I decided to work on something different and try out some ideas. I ended up making a couple of diagrams that stem from the theme of The Dance screen prints I made earlier this year.
Check back tomorrow to see what I came up with…
